THE STORY OF NATHANIEL C. PANGARO

Ever since I was interviewed on WNBC News 4 New York after my school alcohol-tested multiple students, sparking a community uproar, I have had a deep interest in journalism. That interest only grew during my time in the journalism program at American University.

While at American University, I gained firsthand experience in the field and learned from experienced reporters. I wrote stories covering various topics, from profiles to city council meetings and school politics.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, I incorporated my interest in technology into my reporting by conducting interviews over video conferencing platforms and collaborating with team members via digital tools. I could continue my journalistic studies and practices online just as effectively as in person.

Studying remotely allowed me to explore political issues more deeply—particularly during an election year. I focused primarily on the DACA program and how COVID-19 affected students, immigrants, educators, and everyday people.

After graduating from American University, I entered a role where I created content for diverse audiences, turning complex topics into clear, engaging information. The role strengthened my research and writing skills and taught me to communicate effectively with readers from different backgrounds.

I later focused on technology and lifestyle content, producing articles that explained software, hardware, and product experiences in an accessible way. This work allowed me to develop strategies for presenting technical information while building professional relationships with external partners.

In addition to written content, I managed multimedia projects that included photos, videos, and graphics for campaigns and community initiatives. I streamlined content production by creating consistent workflows and templates, improving platform quality and efficiency.

My work also involved refining AI-generated content, improving accuracy, tone, and alignment with audience needs. I applied prompt engineering techniques and collaborated with leadership to enhance digital experiences, producing content that was both engaging and high-quality.

As I continue my professional and journalistic journey, I aim to inform diverse audiences on topics ranging from technology to politics. Building on my experience, I plan to grow, reflect, and develop into the journalist I aspire to become.

I am Nathaniel C. Pangaro, and I am a journalist.
